About the Workshop
Looking to slow down, disconnect from daily screens, and create something deeply meaningful with your hands? Oseredok Cultural and Educational Centre invites you to a unique, 5-hour interactive textile workshop led by Kyiv-based artist, curator, and writer Oksana Briukhovetska.
In this intimate session, participants will work with fabric as a powerful narrative medium—combining personal memories, family stories, and artistic reflection to create their own unique textile collage. Guided step-by-step by Oksana, you will experience the grounding and therapeutic process of slow art-making in a warm, welcoming community environment.
No prior sewing or artistic experience is required—all skill levels are welcome!
Mini-Lecture: Textiles as Resistance
As part of the workshop, Oksana will present a brief, inspiring talk on international traditions of textile art as a form of quiet political resistance, care, and memory. Drawing connections between Chilean arpilleras, African American quilting traditions, and traditional Ukrainian embroidery, the session explores how fabric has historically empowered women to document their lived experiences during times of crisis.
Exhibition Connection
This workshop is held in conjunction with Oksana Briukhovetska’s major solo exhibition, In the Name of Life, opening at Oseredok on October 2, 2026. Participants are encouraged to visit the gallery before or during the workshop to view Oksana’s textile works and gain deeper inspiration for their own creations.

What We Provide:
- Base fabrics in various solid colors
- Needles, threads, pins, and fabric scissors
- Ironing equipment and a selection of patterned fabric scraps provided by the artist
What You Can Bring (Optional): While all core materials are provided, participants are warmly encouraged to bring their own sentimental fabric items—such as cast-off floral materials, old clothes, fabric scraps, or small keepsakes (printed photos, keychains, beads)—to weave directly into their artwork.
