Learn More About Canada’s First National Internment Operations Through Art

An Interview with Kerri Parnell, Artist and Curator of the Pause in Plight Exhibition

Oseredok’s exhibition Pause in Plight, featuring the works of Winnipeg artist Kerri Parnell, explores the difficult subject of first world war internment in Canada between 1914-1920. This exhibition, created by Parnell in partnership with the Canadian First World War Recognition Fund (CFWWIRF) is meant not only to showcase the artistic talents of Parnell, but also to use art as an opportunity to create a dialogue around the politics and history of Canada’s first national internment operations. In this educational video created by Oseredok to accompany the exhibition, viewers will have the opportunity to listen to a historical overview of the time period delivered by Dr. Lubomyr Luciuk, Professor at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, ON. Viewers will also have an opportunity to watch an interview with Parnell to learn more about how this challenging time period inspired her work and how Canada’s first world war internment operations impacted her as an artist and as a Canadian.
