The Accessible Heritage Project
About the Project:
Each year, Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre welcomes more than 4000 visitors who can see our unique collections, join events and enjoy the featured thematic exhibitions we provide annually. But unfortunately, not all groups of people can access the most prominent collections in Northern America, which we are so proud of. The reason is that we cannot provide proper admission to the most vulnerable group of visitors – people with accessibility issues. It takes much effort for people in a wheelchair or walkers to reach our museum. First, it’s necessary to get to the building by the damaged asphalt pavement, which Oseredok, like a non-profit organization, cannot repair appropriately because of the lack of funds. To enter the building itself, people with accessibility issues have to overcome the awkwardness and inconvenience of using our side door, which serves as a spare fire exit and the only entrance for people in wheelchairs or walkers. Notwithstanding, our elevator is in much need of modernization. It was installed in 1981 and repair work helps little as parts are no longer produced for it. This would help greatly in our elevator to properly accommodate people with accessibility issues.
That’s why Oseredok would like to run the Accessible Heritage Project, which consists of three stages:
- Asphalt pavement capital renovation near Oseredok’s building.
- Installation of a ramp and a new handicap door for people with accessibility issues on the main entrance to Oseredok.
- Oseredok’s elevator modernization.
Why is it necessary?
It is Oseredok’s mandate to be a Centre dedicated to preserving, sharing, promoting, and developing Ukrainian-Canadian and Ukrainian culture and heritage, and Oseredok will be meeting this mandate by providing different services to our visitors. We would like to eradicate the existing gaps and become more accessible for diverse groups of people. It’s not just the Ukrainian community that will benefit from these essential changes but all Manitobans who are always very welcome in our organization that strives to provide the highest quality service to all the guests.
What do we need?
We need your help in raising $922,500 to run the Accessible Heritage Project successfully so that to be able to properly serve our community members and visitors who are interested in Oseredok’s activities.
What do we ask?
We’re kindly asking for your consideration of making an investment by donating to our Accessible Heritage Project. One-time and monthly donations can be made online, over the phone, in person at our boutique or by filling out the enclosed donor card. Donations of $25 and over will receive a charitable tax receipt, but contributions of all levels make a difference and are greatly appreciated.
Your support is our most precious value!
