As part of Oseredok’s major Fall Exhibition Season opening on October 2, we proudly present In the Name of Life<\/em>, a solo exhibition by Kyiv-based artist, curator, and writer Oksana Briukhovetska.<\/p>\n\n This powerful body of textile works bridges generations, connecting the artist’s direct experience of the ongoing war in Ukraine with the wartime memories of her grandmother\u2014a Second World War survivor from the Volyn region. In Briukhovetska’s work, the quiet, foundational acts of everyday care\u2014cooking, gardening, feeding, and teaching children\u2014coexist with the trauma of destruction and loss. Challenging the macro-narratives of geopolitical violence, the exhibition elevates small, ordinary actions as vital acts of resistance that sustain life against despair.<\/p>\n\n Executed through hand-crafted textile collages that incorporate repurposed clothing, the works draw upon domestic techniques passed down through generations. Briukhovetska reclaims “women’s craft” not merely as a traditional medium, but as a sophisticated tool for political expression, decolonial art history, and contemporary feminist discourse.<\/p>\n\n In the Name of Life<\/em> is dedicated to women\u2014both living and passed\u2014whose invisible, persistent labor forms the ultimate bulwark against violence.<\/p>\n\n Artist Talk:<\/strong> Oksana Briukhovetska discusses her recent textile practice, the evolution of women’s craft into a medium of political and social significance, and its critical role in wartime Ukrainian decolonial art history.<\/p>\n\n Textile Workshop (October 4, Sunday):<\/strong> A hands-on storytelling workshop guided by the artist. Participants are invited to use fabric, memorabilia, and personal items to create a collective textile collage exploring courage, memory, and resilience, preceded by a lecture on textiles as a form of global resistance (touching upon Chilean arpilleras and African American quilting traditions).
