Cossack Society of the 17th and 18th centuries, consisting of various social classes, created a new social structure – the Cossack starshyna, a wealthy, landed, political and administrative elite. It played an important role in the cultural life of the nation. Its tastes permeated all aspects of life, the arts, literature, music, education, customs and manners, including fashion.
The exhibition Legacy of the Cossack Elite puts a spotlight on textiles and embroidery favoured by this social class, within the context of clothing of this period. It includes artifacts from the 17th and 18th centuries from the permanent collection of Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre.
